RESOURCE CENTRE

Since our first contact with the Home Based Care project it has been clear that accomodation is an issue. People Living with HIV/AIDS and Orphans and Vulnerable Children are brought together at monthly meetings. At these meetings health checks are carried out, medicines prescribed and food distributed.

In 2004 there were four such meetings held every month. Now (2007) there are eleven groups located in eight districts of the Upper East Region and in two other districts in the Northern region.

The HBC team is based largely in Bolgatanga with counsellors throughout the regions. For a long time administrative space and storage has been at a premium. We have helped, through donations, to stock up on food when prices are lower so as meet demand at other times.

And in 2007 we donated £24,000 towards phase 1 of a new resource/health centre where better support and medical care can be given. Phase 1 provides meeting space. That is nearly complete, so we hope to proceed with Phase 2 in 2008 if we can raise sufficient funds. This will enhance the building to include a recreation room, counselling offices, testing room, and stores.

Roughly another £25,000 is now needed - would you like to help?
